AHI + Cumulative Respiratory-Event Duration™
Framework developed by Pablo Luna, MBA

Seeking research collaboration
A patient-education framework designed to supplement AHI by translating scored respiratory-event durations from an untreated diagnostic polysomnography (PSG) into cumulative event-duration measurements that patients can understand more easily.
Step 1 — AHI: How Often?
How frequently are apnea and hypopnea events occurring?
Step 2 — Event Duration: How Long?
How long do the scored apnea and hypopnea events last?
Step 3 — Cumulative Duration: How Much Time?
What is the cumulative duration of scored respiratory events per hour of sleep and across the total sleep period?
Step 4 — Patient Education: Put the Numbers in Context
Present AHI and cumulative respiratory-event duration together to give patients additional context for understanding their diagnostic sleep study.
AHI tells us how often.
Cumulative respiratory-event duration adds how much time.
Cumulative respiratory-event duration is not equivalent to continuous time without breathing or oxygen-deprivation time. It is not intended to replace AHI, oxygen-saturation measurements, other PSG measurements, or clinical interpretation.
